REGATTAS
Regatta (from Italian. Regata, from riga- row, line) is a term used to describe either a boat race, or series of boat races. Although the term typically describes racing events of unpowered water craft, some powerboat race series are also called regattas. Most commonly, a regatta is either a series of rowing, sailing, gondola races or yacht racing. A regatta often includes social and promotional activities which surround the racing event, and except in the case of boat type (or "class") championships, is usually named for the town or venue where the event takes place.
One of the first popular regattas was Venetian gondolier regatta held in 1740. From the middle of XIX century sailing regattas and started to be held in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. And in the end of the XX century in such countries as: Russia, United States of America, Canada, in Southern America countries and others.
Kiel Week (Kieler Woche) is an annual sailing event in Kiel, Germany. It is one of the largest Volksfeste in Northern Europe and the largest sailing event in the world. Kiel Week is held annually in the last full week in June, and opens officially on the preceding Saturday with the official Glasen, followed by the Holstenbummel. Even before that, Friday evening sees the Soundcheck, a music festival playing on all the stages within the city. Kiel Weeks ends with a large fireworks display at 11 p.m., fired from pontoons or the quays at the Howaldswerke, visible all across the Bay of Kiel.
The result of any competition is the winner. During regattas competition much depends on a yacht and skills of a yachtsman.
There are different criteria:
One design. To exclude an inequality of each yacht on a design, races are spent on practically identical yachts. The design of such boats is rigidly set and deviation from it can be punished by disqualification.
Handicap. Yachts are measured in conformity with the settlement technique considering competitive features of a boat. To each yacht are appropriated handicap the points defined in the measuring certificate. On start of race of a yacht are formed in groups of similar points. Time shown by crew of each yacht, is corrected in conformity with a point, and on this time the result is defined. Thus, the order of arrival of sailing courts on finish, can differ from the final report.
Measured formula. The approach is similar with handicap system regarding measurement of a yacht. At design the formula to which the boat should conform is specified measured. It is considered, that the yachts satisfying measured to the formula, are equal, and the result can be brought on arrival of sailing vessels on finish without recalculation of time. During too time the given approach allows approaching more freely to design of yachts, to look for the latent possibilities for improvement of a design.

Blue Cup Regatta 2009
The first competition was in 1990, and only a small number of French Beneteau yachts participated. Since then, its popularity has increased year by year. In November 2000, 40 crews joined the race. There were several more who wanted to participate, but unfortunately a larger number cannot be accepted due to the nature of the race and the small Greek ports we visit at the end of every day. In general, this is very interesting event with parties, dances and visiting such places as: Aigina Island, Epidaurus, Poros Island, Hydra Island, and Porto Heli.
